MOPS Leadership Positions

MOPS Leadership Positions:

Here is some more info about each leadership position, and please know I am here to answer any questions, to help encourage you and pray for you.  Being involved in MOPS Leadership over the years has been a huge blessing to me and my family. Below are all the positions that make up our leadership team so you can be learning about them and be in prayer about where God is leading you.

I heard a GREAT message yesterday that I wanted to include as well. God has given each of us unique gifts to fulfill His purpose. I can't do what God has gifted you with and vice-a-versa. If you get a chance after the kids are in bed I highly recommend you take a listen. This might help God lead you where you need to be.

MOPS Leadership is a commitment to attend all of the following:

  • Monthly leadership meetings (these are held in the morning with the option of childcare).
  • 2 MOPS meetings a month
  • 2 Girls' Nights Out
  • MOPS & POPS

Coordinator (must be a regular attender of Olive Knolls):

The Purpose of Coordinating MOPS-
MOPS leadership is based on the principle of teamwork. It requires more than just one person to organize and implement the MOPS experience of planning, meeting and growing together. Working as a team provides a variety of areas for leadership development and creates a spiritual and emotional support network for the women who are leading MOPS.
However, every team needs a leader, a person who is responsible for pulling the variety of ideas and plans together. A MOPS Coordinator offers input and support to the Steering Team and the entire MOPS group. She works closely with her team, providing clear expectations while encouraging resourcefulness and creativity. The purpose of coordinating is not to control, but to guide.
A Coordinator also offers spiritual leadership under the authority of the Chartering Ministry. Her position allows her to disciple the women on her team, keeping them focused on the MOPS goal of bringing women to Christ and encouraging them in their own spiritual lives.
Because the Coordinator is most often the “up-front person” in a MOPS group, her influence will extend past the Steering Team to the women attending MOPS. Perhaps more than anyone else, she has the opportunity to show and tell women that better moms make a better world.
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together ... but let us encourage one another.
Hebrews 10:24
Coordinator Job Description
Personal Characteristics:
[ Demonstrates a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Because many women in MOPS may not have committed their lives to Christ, she is in an excellent position to encourage others to make this decision.
[ Displays an accurate and thorough understanding of the MOPS International vision, both as it applies to her group and as it reaches moms around the world.
[ Demonstrates an effective leadership style that is influential in nature, rather than authoritative. She can think strategically to identify expectations and guidelines.
[ Displays an ability to identify strengths in others and encourage women to develop their own talents.
[ Delegates well and enjoys having many women involved in projects.
[ Demonstrates warmth, friendliness and a desire to reachout to other mothers through her sensitivity and supportiveness.
[ Reflects sensitivity, realism, flexibility and humor. [ Communicates effectively, both one-on-one and in front of a group.

Finance (must be a regular attender of Olive Knolls):

The Purpose of MOPS Finance
Well managed finances maximize ministry opportunities within every area of a MOPS group. The Finance Team Leader is responsible for overseeing and tracking income and expenses in a way that is sensitive to every mom.
Like any organization, your MOPS group will need funds in order to operate. You will be responsible for providing certain things, like childcare and refreshments. Your group will also be responsible for meeting financial obligations to MOPS International, and for responsibly reporting your financial activities to your Chartering Ministry.
The budget your Steering Team creates will provide a way to hold leaders and moms accountable to their responsibi-lities within MOPS. At the same time, your gentle approach to financial matters demonstrates your commitment to the MOPS International mission. Finance Team members are often among the first to connect with a mom. The impact of their sensitivity and warmth can set the tone for the group and for the future involvement of each MOPS mom.
Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, serving as overseers—not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not greedy for money, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.

Hospitality (must be a regular attender of Olive Knolls):

The Purpose of Hospitality
Mothers of preschoolers are often used to putting the needs of their children before their own, and rarely take the time to nurture themselves. The Hospitality Team sets the tone and offers a pleasant and sustaining environment where the felt needs of a mother are met.
The overall goal of MOPS Hospitality is to create a warm, safe, comfortable and inviting place where a woman can feel accepted among friends by:
[ Creating an atmosphere of welcome as women arrive, making each woman feel glad she came to MOPS.
[ Serving food at MOPS meetings, helping women feel nurtured, facilitating interaction and providing time to relax.
[ Reaching out between MOPS meetings to women and their families, showing that MOPS genuinely cares about moms, not just about their MOPS attendance. This builds deeper relationships, providing more opportunities for sharing the truth of Jesus through lifestyle evangelism.
Simplicity is key. Hospitality doesn’t have to be expensive or elaborate to be effective. The goal is to communicate to each woman, “You are special and we care about you.”
Above all, love each other deeply .... Offer hospitality to one another. Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.
1 Peter 4:8-10

Creative Activities (must be a regular attender of Olive Knolls):

The Purpose of Creative Activities
God, the Creator, made us in his image. That means he created us to be creative. During the years of raising young children, mothers of preschoolers hunger for creative oppor- tunities where individuality can be expressed. In this season when sentences are rarely completed, moms enjoy the opportunity to learn a new activity or finish something that becomes a visual aid for their invested efforts.
Creative Activities:
[ Provide opportunities to learn or develop creative skills and complete projects in a non-threatening, friendly atmosphere.
[ Provide alternative areas of creativity and learning a mother may not otherwise explore.

The Creative Activities Team Leader encourages mothers of preschoolers, especially those women on her team, by showing them that they can do or learn an activity, can create and can enjoy the process of completing something.
We are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

30 Ideas for a Date Night at Home

Here are some great ideas from "The Mom Crowd" Blog! There is NO excuse not to have a Date night with your spouse! Here are some ideas for some at home dates. So plan a Date night after your kids are in bed!

Here are 30 date night ideas that you can do at home after the little ones are tucked into bed and SOUND ASLEEP.
1. Have dinner in the backyard, patio, or your front lawn.
2. Re-watch the first movie you watched together.
3. Don’t cook and get your favorite take out.
4. Have a theme night. You must dress, eat dinner, and watch a movie with the same theme. Think ‘Western’ and dress like a cowgirl, eat bar-b-que, and watch Tombstone. Think ‘French’ and put on a black and white top, make French onion soup, and watch Amelie. It could be anything!
5. Put a blanket down and picnic in front of the TV.
6. Make a special dessert to indulge in. Bake chocolate chip cookies and right when you get them out of the oven put vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce on top. Even making brownies from a box can warm up any night.
7. Take a shower and get dressed up to go out, but stay in. One night I even put on my dress from my prom. I would never wear it out now, but I still love it and wore it on a night in.
8. Snuggle on the couch and watch a movie. I (heart) my Netflix queue!
9. Try to beat your all time record. (This was my husband’s suggestion for the list.)
10. Wear your old bikini that you would never wear in public again, because your stretch marks glisten too brightly in the sunlight! Ha. Your husband won’t care and will love you in it.
11. Break out the board games. Play it so that the loser has to do the dishes or even a fun strip version.
12. Wear your favorite lingerie under your normal clothes. Better yet wear none underneath.
13. Sit outside and read together.
14. Have a candlelit dinner in the dining room you rarely use.
15. Make a mix CD or playlist to enjoy throughout the evening.
16. Dance! Make room for our own private dance floor and have fun. Don’t worry, no one is watching you dance like Elaine Benes.
17. Write out an invitation card to your date requesting their presence at the VIP Lounge of your private nightclub.
18. Splurge on delicious cheeses and add fruit, crackers, and wine.
19. Make out during the DVD menu music.
20. Give each other a back rub.
21. Share your favorite dating memory with each other over dinner.
22. Set out candles around the room. (I know this is an old idea, but it is really nice to do once in a while.)
23. Dress as a character from a movie and you pick the character for each other (think Tom Cruise inRisky Business).
24. Work out together. Set up a circuit in the garage or in the back yard with a jump rope, dumbbells, push-up, and sit-up stations.
25. Cook together and try a new recipe for dinner or for a cocktail.
26. Go to bed early together.
27. Play video games together.
28. Watch a sports game and eat stadium food like nachos and hot dogs.
29. Set up a pair of chairs and stick your feet in the kiddie pool.
30. Make breakfast in bed for dinner and watch TV.
